Five nights at one east-coast beach resort, with day trips to Stone Town, Prison Island and Nakupenda, the Mnemba reefs and Jozani Forest.

If you'd rather unpack once, this holiday keeps you at one beach resort for all five nights and brings the island to you through day trips.

You explore Stone Town and a spice farm, take a boat to Prison Island's giant tortoises and the Nakupenda sandbank, snorkel the reefs around Mnemba Atoll and look for red colobus monkeys in Jozani Forest.

The last full day ends in a village near Jozani, where you join a cooking session and meet the people who live there, before a farewell dinner on the beach.

How the prices work

These are indicative planning prices per person, based on 2 adults sharing a room. They are not confirmed quotations.

Your final cost depends on your travel dates, the hotels and room types you choose, the meal plan and whether excursions are shared or private. We confirm your price and hotels in writing before you pay a deposit.

To request a price for one traveller or a group of three to six, select your group size in the booking box and Ombeni will quote you directly.

Your private vehicle and guide are shared only by your own party, so the more of you there are, the less each person pays.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

  1. 1

    Day 1

    Arrival at your beach resort

Your driver meets you at Zanzibar International Airport and takes you across the island to your resort on the east coast, about an hour away. The afternoon is yours to settle in by the pool, walk the beach or book a massage.

Certified divers can arrange a dive here instead. You return to the resort in the afternoon, with time for the spa or a sunset walk.

Best time to visit Zanzibar

MonthsWhat to expect
June to OctoberGenerally dry, sunny and comfortably warm. The most popular time for beach holidays and boat trips.
December to FebruaryHot and mostly dry, with calm seas that suit swimming and snorkelling.
March and NovemberMore changeable, with some showers. Plans may need a little flexibility.
April and MayThe long rains. Some excursions can be affected, but the island is quieter and some hotels offer better rates.
Boat trips and snorkelling always depend on the weather, the tides and the state of the sea on the day.

Good to know before you go

  • Tides: On the east coast, the sea can go out a long way at low tide, revealing lagoons and seaweed farms. The north, around Nungwi and Kendwa, is better for swimming at most tides.
  • Dress: Zanzibar is a mainly Muslim island. Cover your shoulders and knees in Stone Town and the villages, and keep swimwear for the beach and the hotel.
  • Ramadan: Some restaurants open later during Ramadan, and it's polite not to eat or drink in the street during the day.
  • Mnemba: Snorkelling trips visit the reefs around the atoll. The island itself is private, so trips don't land on it.
  • Money: US dollars are widely accepted, but small Tanzanian shilling notes are useful for markets and tips.
