Lemosho approaches Kilimanjaro from the remote west, crossing the wild Shira Plateau before joining the southern circuit to Uhuru Peak. Eight days of gradual 'climb high, sleep low' ascent gives it one of the best acclimatization profiles — and success rates — on the mountain, with quiet trails on the early days.

  • Most scenic western approach across the Shira Plateau caldera
  • Excellent 8-day acclimatization profile — climb high, sleep low
  • Quiet, low-traffic trails on the first three days
  • Lava Tower (4,630 m) acclimatization day and the Barranco Wall scramble
  • Summit night timed for sunrise at Uhuru Peak (5,895 m)

Frequently Asked Questions

The extra days give your body more time to acclimatize, which is the single biggest factor in reaching the summit. Lemosho's gradual western approach and 'climb high, sleep low' profile make it one of the highest-success routes on Kilimanjaro.

It is a demanding multi-day trek but requires no technical climbing. Any reasonably fit person who trains with regular hikes for 2–3 months beforehand can attempt it. The Barranco Wall is a fun scramble, not a climb.

The dry seasons — January to early March and June to October. July to September offers the most stable weather and clearest summit views, and pairs perfectly with a Great Migration safari afterwards.
